News letter 2003

It was very easy to pick the most important thing that happened to us in 2003. Our second son was born on October 14th. He was born one day early, which is very punctual when it comes to babies. He weighed 3.9 kg and is the cutest baby on earth of course. He sleeps, eats and grows. He smiles his most heartwarming smile to make his parents melt. He is called Lillebror (=little brother) as his parents have great difficulties finding the perfect name for a perfect baby.

Five days after the birth of Lillebror, Axel had his second birthday. His favourite hobby is plugging and unplugging electric cables. Every time he finds an electric cable he will unplug it, no matter if it is connected to a Christmas tree in a shop or if it belongs to our blinking Buddha here at home. His
second most favourite hobby is ’krakra’, which in his very own language means to climb. He is climbing everything, like parents, chairs, window sills, stairs and toilets. If he had been allowed to he would climb Lillebror as well.

Axel now attends kindergarten, and he is a big boy who knows everything. He knows that shoes are supposed to be on the shoe shelf, where in the fridge he can find juice and where in the freezer we keep ice cream and cinnamon rolls. He also knows who lights the moon up in the sky (daddy does!) and who makes snow fall (daddy does!).

In 2003 a lot of people have been living with us in the house. It all began with two cats though who stayed with us for a month. The were faster than Axel and had sharper claws than Cacke. In April and May first Malin and then Ylva stayed with us. They are both great favourites of Axel. During summer Kjell stayed with us. That turned out to be a really good thing as with his help all the windows are finally restored to what they are supposed to be: they keep the weather out and allow light in. During the autumn Kristina has been staying with us. She plays in a student’s orchestra and Axel now loves that kind of music.

Unfortunately Kersti has not been feeling well during pregnancy and has not been able to work most of the time. To keep in touch with the lab she got herself a mighty computer and a fast Internet connection. She was also lucky enough to get her very own PhD student who keeps working even without Kersti’s presence. Kersti will be on a full time maternity leave until Lillebror is six months old.

Cacke has been on a 50% paternity leave during spring and 25% during autumn. His main project at work has been to design the Axis 205 camera which is supposed to be cheap and good.

This year we have surprisingly had less time to renovate the house than we had before. Somehow the children make their presence known, they kind of shrink the time available for other things than taking care of them. We had to mend the roof and we also started another big project, we are renovating the hallway. That project celebrated its first anniversary last week, and if we will probably celebrate the second anniversary in a year. The house keeps getting warmer and we have been enjoying the cast iron cassette in the fireplace. It really keeps the house warm during cold winter nights.

This year we celebrated our 5th anniversary (as married). We both managed to get the same kind of present for each other. We got loads of plants for the garden. As Kersti was not feeling well Cacke ended up planting all the plants. That involved a whole lot of weeding as approximately one m3 of weeds had to be removed.

The garden also has been decorated with a rocket. It still has its limits though. In order to enter the rocket you need to say some secret spells and you shouldn’t forget to bring a saw. Do we need to mention that the pink flamingos love the rocket?
