Newsletter 2017

When people ask if there is any news, Kersti usually says: “No. Still same husband, kids, house, jobs and car, and that is good!” And it is really good. If we get to keep the same for many years more we will be very happy. Except the car. We are actually already considering a different car. And quite soon.

Last year did not include any major changes, everything was just very nice and life is good. Things that make life good include family, friends and a nice job (and champagne). In order to improve our situation we have tried to meet as many friends as possible. Dinner, fika, a walk downtown or in the forest, sewing circles,  beer evenings, Warhammer game nights, weddings; we have tried it all! One of Carl’s favorites was the beer trip to Belgium in the spring. It combined beer and friends. Another favorite is the road trip through Germany, Belgium and France where we managed to squeeze in three birthday celebrations and lots of champagne and friends. Kersti’s birthday was celebrated with monochromatic men. Life does not get much better.

Our house has seen some improvement this year as well. Two additions were the most visible change. They are called Muckle homes, and everybody who has read Pettson and Findus will recognize them. Unfortunately many of our friends are too grown up to know anything about Muckle homes. Come visit us! We will let you know what they are and offer you some champagne as well. We have also added some new color on the inside of the house, but it is hardly noticeable.

Axel is now 16 years old and attends secondary school at Polhem, Lund. He finds chemistry interesting, CAD wonderful, and technology great fun. The only subject he does not seem to like is German. The number of guitar sin his room is steadily increasing. In the summer he attended a guitar building course in Stockholm. There he built a beautiful guitar with a maple lid. In the summer he also snagged his first proper employment. He is now a master when it comes to removing old dried chewing gum from underneath tables and desks.

Johan is 14 years old and attends grade eight. He is slowly finding school less obnoxious, and has started planning for secondary school. He aims for something in life sciences or technology. There is a lot to choose from, but there is still time. He plays the French horn, and is now tall and strong enough to actually carry his horn around without effort. His main hobby right now, or at least the most expensive one right now, is building drones. A really good hobby should use up all your time and all your money. Building drones is a really good hobby.

Kersti turned 50 in 2017, but the big celebration was in 2016 together with Carl. Her hair is turning gray, the kids have both outgrown her, and the sight and hearing are slowly deteriorating. Looking on the positive side, everybody in the family are stronger and can carry more than she does, everything looks more beautiful every year and everything sounds less bad every year. Isn’t it fantastic? Kersti is still employed at PHI. This year offered less travels, and more in house work, but a little of USA, England, France and Scotland was nice.

Carl is still at Axis. This year has been dedicated to the radar, and Carl is considered one of the radar experts. That means he gets to travel and tell everybody about how good the new D2050-VE is. His new hobby is beer brewing, and he actually produced a total of 10 liters of potable beer in three batches. As it was not completely scientific, he will not be able to reproduce what he did. Johan aims to outgrow him as soon as possible. It will soon happen!

At year’s end we visited family in the US. We saw many nice things, but we also learned that Washington at -7 C and half storm is not a very nice spot for sightseeing. The image shows the family in front of Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C.
