Newsletter 20202020 has been a strange year in many ways. Corona has affected the entire world, not only us, and so much has happened in our family, good and bad. Good is that Axel and Adam have graduated from high school. They are now officially grownups! Johan still enjoys high school, and the family thrives in all the important ways. Bad and sad is that Kersti’s mother, Anna-Lena, passed away this spring. That affected the family at least as much as all Corona restrictions. The year began in a good way, with new year’s celebrations in Las Vegas. The rest of the family flew home and left Cacke there for another week. He was supposed to work, and he enjoyed staying in Trump Tower. The rest of the spring was all gray. Anna-Lena was very sick for a short while, and then she quickly passed away. The spring and summer were filled with all the administration as well as a Corona-safe funeral. In times such as those it is wonderful to have three siblings to share everything with. In addition to not traveling for work or holidays, we have also utilized the home office more than ever. Together with the rest of the world, we have learned to share the house while running four or five video conferences simultaneously, and to love frozen TV-dinners for lunch. Somehow all kids (young adults) managed home schooling without much trouble. We so admire all these teachers who in a single day managed to convert from traditional to remote teaching. And we so admire all students who made it work. Non-working hours are also affected by that stubborn virus, so we have enjoyed garden drinks, social walks in the forest, facetime wine, outdoor winter barbecue and other safe activities. Kersti’s sewing circle is also digital now. The family has almost managed to finish the entire Netflix library. One really enjoyable thing turned out to be Corona safe; practicing slippery driving! There is a fenced area with artificial ice where grownups can play bumper car with their own car :-) For a couple of weeks this summer we became very much aware of living in the center of science, close to Lund University. A small mouse and his family decided that our home was their home. As the little fuzzball managed to escape our attempts to catch it 10 times, we named him Einstein. When we finally caught him, he was escorted to the city boarder, but managed to escape en route. He must have escaped from a science lab. Celebrating Axel’s and Adam’s high school graduations was great fun and a great challenge. Unfortunately, due to restrictions, large parts of the official celebrations were cancelled. We served outdoor food in hand portions and had a great time in the garden.
Adam is also 19 years old. He has been a part of our family for many years. He graduated in the spring as well. He has known for a long time that he wants to work with software, and he now enjoys an internship at Sigma IT, one of the largest software consultants in the neighbourhood. Adam has also turned into a cake baking wiz with among others cardamom rolls, sugar buns and babka on the menu. Johan is 17 years old and attends second year in high school. He still enjoys his choice of natural sciences with focus on physics. He has even participated in physics competitions. Computers are still his most important tool, and does not everyone need at least seven computers with different specialities? He finds remote teaching is OK, but not as fun as actual school, and that remote teaching when it comes to French horn is very difficult. His favourite pastime is playing in a VR headset.
Cacke develops new exciting products for Axis, only he does it at home. Getting paid to sit in a comfy armchair suits him well. He also spends much time working in the electronics workshop in the basement, developing the brand Zebramount. As he strictly follows the 100 year renovation plan for our house, he has renovated the wood workshop in the basement. Just for fun, he also built an outdoor bath for two. Sitting in warm water, gazing at the stars while drinking champagne belongs to the great pleasures in life. These two pictures are a reminder of how time passes. They are captured in the same spot in 2006 and 2020. Christmas greetings from all of us, from Kerstin’s and Carl-Eric’s garden.
