Newsletter 2024Most important this year: Celebrating that Carl and Kersti have been an item for 30 years! It was almost as wonderful as celebrating our 25th anniversary a couple of years ago. Once again we noted that time flies, and that it is important to make every day enjoyable. We have once again made the new year’s resolution to drink more champagne. It is easy to fulfill, we enjoy it and quite a few people actually want to help us with it. It must be the perfect new year’s resolution!Once again highly intelligent mice have invaded our home. There must be something in the water in Lund... We tried four different types of mouse traps without success. The mice ate the goodies and avoided the dangers. Finally we hired a mouse specialist who turned out to have not only modern mouse traps but also Kalles kaviar. Kalles kaviar is a typical Swedish invention, it is like a poor man’s caviar. The first mouse was caught very quickly after arming the modern mouse traps with Kalles kaviar, and the second one was caught the day after. We really recommend Kalles kaviar to catch mice. In April, Kersti was going to Rome to give a talk. We made a detour going there and visited Venice, Florence and the Tarot statue park before arriving in Rome. All of it was wonderful, but the Tarot statue park is the winner! There was an artist who decided to create colorful outlandish statues inspired by Tarot cards. We would have loved to bring them all to Sweden, but they would not fit in the suit case. As for the trip, Italy in April was wonderful! Perfect weather and almost no other tourists.![]() In the spring we booked a stay at Castle Häckeberga with Axel, Johan, Kerstin and friends. Thanks to one of the friends we now have an amazing family portrait. Thank you Patrik! Dinner was good and the surroundings are amazing. We can really recommend gong there. ![]() Unfortunately, the spring was a difficult time for us all as Carl’s sister, Monny, passed away. Sadly, she has been ill for quite some time and in the spring she became acutely ill. The funeral was beautiful with music and dance, friends and warmth. Monny was a well-known artist in Falun, and her art is presented in many places there. The summer started nicely with many student parties (not any of ours!), grown up parties (also not ours!) and a great midsummer celebration. Carl attended a Weber barbecue class and is now the official expert on what beer to drink while barbecuing. The US cousins, Alex and Kristina, came visiting in the summer together with their mother and Kristina’s oldest son. They came to spread the ashes of Carl’s uncle in the sea outside of Blekinge. The fishing boat Edit was a great help. We went to Denmark again. It has been a while. It all started out with us wanting to meet with friends who live in Hamburg. We did not have energy enough to go all the way to Hamburg and they did not have energy enough to come to Lund. A good compromise makes everyone happy. We decided to meet half way at Möns klint and to stay at Castle Liselund. One more castle that can be highly recommended. Unfortunately the storms have taken a lot of the passageways down the klint, but everything was still beautiful, and they are currently repairing it. In the Autumn we went to Italy, this time it was pure pleasure. There was a delightful wine festival in Calosso which is a very old and beautiful village on a small mountain top. We stayed at a vineyard, visited friends and drank a lot of nice wine. We looked at old roman ruins and we saw the Toblerone mountain top from afar, Carl tried a famous cake, and we heard a lot of probably at least partly true stories about an orange festival. There are quite a few old castle ruins in Italy. Axel is keeping up with his studies and enjoys the student life. He is the boss of the technology student bar and has attended all sorts of classes to become a certified alcohol handler. He had summer job at Aimpoint in Malmoe, and went through all the tasks with double speed. In the autumn he spontaneously decided to purchase a motor cycle, a small pretty BMW. He is currently practicing to get his license. Johan got tired of living in a student dorm, as the kitchen never was clean. He moved to an apartment in the north of Lund, and enjoys living on his own, with a clean kitchen. He enjoys his studies, but considers taking a gap year, doing something totally different. He also enjoys student life. Among other things he makes cookies for the student café once a week. In the summer he worked at Axis and learned everything about 3D printers.
Adam continues his studies in Gävle, and is now doing a practical part of the studies. He enjoys the more hands on part of the curriculum and has found other role-playing game lovers at work. He did not put the giant straw goat on fire this year either. He keeps cooking new recipes and trying weird candy. We were fortunate enough to have him visit both for Easter and in the summer. Kersti still enjoys work at PHI. She has been on 50% sick leave all year due to the surgery in November 2023. She has traveled much less than usual, except for the talk in Rome and a visit to Bucharest before Christmas. Knitting and crocheting can be quite productive when on sick leave. Carl amuses himself at Axis. In 2024 he contributed to a PR movie where a camera was frozen into the ice on an ice rink. The film. He keeps creating and improving sensors to improve the greasing of machines. The sensors are sold through Durable Devices AB. He still fixes the house, painted the window frames and all front doors. He also opened up a door between two rooms on the first floor. The year ended with baking the traditional ginger bread cookies. There is no proper Christmas without great-great grandmother’s ginger bread recipe. We only add twice the amount of spices.
